Effective tools and interventions must be developed to make health care information more accessible for everyone, and especially for those who are at higher risk for low health literacy. Recent health care reform efforts have focused on empowering patients with more health information. It is critical that patients be provided with both verbal and written information they can understand and act on to improve health outcomes.
